How many military would be expected to die if not in Iraq?

MIKE YANTREE asked:

Iraq is dangerous, but so is training. Every life is valuable and to be honored. Are there stats comparing non-combat zone fatalities to war fatalities? In other words, are there some that would die on the highways of America and yet instead survive because they are not in America but in the dangerous areas of Iraq?
People die in car accidents, in the US training, etc. ….
Some questions appear to not make sense on the surface, but the digging deeper increases their potential for adding knowledge.
Sometimes the facts are counterintuitive. Thanks for the info.

A friend sent me some statistics, but I have since lost track of them. What these stats said was that more military personnel died in the years that Bill Clinton was president than have so far died since George Bush was president, including war casualties. If these stats are valid, it leads one to wonder, especially since there wasn’t a war during the Clinton occupancy. Drunk driving? Scuba accidents? Jay walking tragedies? I would think those stats are spurious, because war is inherently more dangerous than peace-time service. If they are valid, then that would indicate that Clinton played more military games than the citizenry gave him credit for.
